어느 날 한 마리 개가 정육점 앞을 지나가다가 커다란 고깃덩어리 하나를 발견합니다. 개는 얼른 고기를 물고 집으로 돌아가려다가, 길을 건너는 도중 다리 위에 이릅니다.
다리 위를 지나던 개는 물 아래를 내려다봅니다. 그런데 강물에 비친 자기 모습을 보고는,
그 모습이 다른 개가 고기를 물고 있는 것이라고 착각합니다.
욕심이 많았던 개는:
“저 고기까지 빼앗으면 두 덩어리를 가질 수 있겠지!”
하고 생각하며 짖으려 입을 벌립니다. 그러나 입을 벌리자 물고 있던 고기가 풍덩 하고 강물 속으로 빠져버립니다.
결국 개는 자신의 고기마저 잃고 맙니다.
Hi! My name is Hyunmin Park.
When I was 10, I went to the U.S. with my family.
Although I only stayed for about half a year, the time I
spent there completely changed my life. While I was inthe U.S., I attened an American elementary school. It
was an amazing opportunity to experience a different
education system. The one that surprised and
impressed me the most was the mandatory reading
time every morning. In the American school, as soon as
we arrived, we would pick a book from the shelf, sit on
the carpet, and start reading. The level of autonomy
students had in developing their own reading habits
stood out to me. Additionally, the books I read in the
U.S. were very different from those in Korea in terms of
themes, characters, and storylines. I found them fresh
and engaging. Back in Korea, I wasn't a big fan of
reading, but being in an environment where everyone
around me was reading, and being exposed to such
diverse and exciting books, naturally made me enjoy it
more. That experience taught me how important it is to
have access to a variety of books and a welcoming
reading atmosphere when building a healthy reading
habit. Since then, I've always wanted to write a story in
English about Korean traditions-something that could
introduce American children to a different culture while
also helping them develop a love for reading. I'm truly
excited to be part of this project, and I look forward to
writing creative stories that share my culture and
heritage.
